The flock is owned and run by Henry Jewitt and is based at Gracie's farm, Romaldkirk, Barnard Castle, County Durham. The aim of the flock is to produce top quality sheep to meet the needs of the current market whether pedigree or commercial and the "Jewitt" flock was started when Henry was 11 in 2006.

Prior to 2006, Beltexs influenced the commercial flock heavily and still do to this day at Gracie’s Farm, and have been used across the ewes to produce prime lambs, with both store or prime lambs selling at premium prices in the marketplace. The flock started with a Shearling Gimmer and Ewe Lamb that were purchased privately. Later in that year at the Carlisle Inlamb Sale, Two Shearling Gimmers were purchased which went on to produce a successful base for the flock. The flock has since built up from buying females from sales and privately from many top breeders, to securing new top breeding stock with new bloodlines from Belgium - the original home of the Beltex - with the first visit in 2013. The flock number now stands at just over fifty breeding ewes lambed annually, along with a large number of recipient ewes carrying embryos.

Each year, extensive flushing work is done with the flock with a top draw of the breeding ewes and shearling gimmers are flushed with their embryos implanted into recipients with the aim to maximise their annual crop of lambs and with the ewes flushed numerous top quality stock rams. Flushing has enabled the flock to increase rapidly with the focus being on the best genetics and sheep to ultimately improve the flock.

In recent years the flock has invested heavily in new genetics both in stock rams and female breeding stock from many UK leading flocks which has enabled the Jewitt flock to produce a solid base of stock ewes. Purchases of leading ladies include the 4,400gns Winning Streak, Peak-A-Boo, Panache, Katriona, Tamara, Something Special, Solitaire and Total Class, to name just a few.

Influential sires to date within the flock include Beachy Perfection, which was privately purchased for £4,500 from the Royal Highland Show at which he won the Ram Lamb class. Within the flock, he has since produced Rockafella (£2,500), Razzmatazz (1,100gns), Rampageous (1,000gns) and Wellington (£1,000), as well as one of his daughters producing Too Hot To Handle (£1,200). He also sired the 1st Shearling Ram at RHS 2012, which was later sold for £8,000; and the newly acquired stock ram, Corra Wally ET 2,600gns.

Glantre Royce has also significantly influenced the flock, purchased for 9,000gns in 2012, and is a full brother to the noted Norris. Royce has produced many prize winning stock, a strong crop of females which have been retained within the flock, and his crop sons Too Hot To Handle (£1,200), Top Secret (800gns) and The Flying Wonder (800gns). Royce has also sired shearling gimmers which have subsequently then sold at up to 2,500gns. Recent purchases beginning to influence the flock include Hudhey Tenacious D ET (9,500gns), Newton Des Quatre Vents, Quarrymount TNT, and the most recent being Belvoir View Apple Jack and Corra Wally.

There has been success at sales for the flock with the top price to date being for Rockafella (£2,500), but with others being sold for good prices including Wellington (£1,000), Candy Man (1,500gns), Tantastic (1,000gns), Too Hot To Handle (£1,200), Rockafella (£2,500), Razzmatazz (1,100gns) and Rampageous (1,000gns). Many rams are sold from the flock to commercial producers, which then go on to produce top quality lambs as required for the market place, and gain premium prices, in addition to the consignments taken to Society Sales. We have successfully built a customer base up for our stock with many returning more that once after been over the moon with results provided by a Jewitt Beltex ram or ewe. We annually sell between twenty and thirty rams, as well as a selection of stock ewes and shearling gimmers these are for sale privately or at society sales.

The flock is certainly no stranger to success in the show ring with wins of a number of major titles at the best shows in the country, including the breed championship at the National Progeny Show (Penrith) with over 200 beltex entries, male champion and reserve overall champion at the Royal Welsh Show, first prize tickets at the Great Yorkshire Show and the National Beltex Show at the Three Counties Show, in addition to seconds at the Royal Highland Show. Not to mention year on year breed and terminal breed championship awards and many red tickets at local and county shows across England.

We endeavour and strive to improve the flock with the best genetics possible to ensure we are able to meet the requirements of our customers within the current marketplace.

The flock always has semen and stock for sale and visitors are always welcome.
